Emma Plus Three is One! Looking Back and Plans for the Year Ahead

Wow, I can’t believe it’s been a whole year since I created this blog and published a post for the very first time. In some ways it feels like I’ve always been doing it but in others it seems like the time has past really quickly.

I had thought about starting a blog for a long time but I just never had the confidence to actually do it. I worried what people would think and I allowed that to stop me from doing what I wanted to do. Just before I started my blog I was having a bit of a tough time with a few things going on in my life and I decided that I needed a distraction. This was just before Max’s autism diagnosis and I found writing it down really helped me, so that’s what I did, I wrote and I haven’t stopped since.

In the beginning…

My first ever blog post was a load of waffle about Max’s eyesight and him needing glasses etc, which I have since deleted. I think my second post was a few photos from a snow day that we had last January but again, I appear to have deleted that one too! I’m quite annoyed at myself for deleting old posts because as much as they might make me cringe, they are still memories  which is a big part of why I started blogging.

So the first blog posts that you can actually read now are –

  1. Autism: Our Story So Far
  2. My Cervical Screening Story

Both of which I am very proud of and will never delete as it took a lot for me to write them and they received a lot of lovely feedback. So, if you have a moment I would love for you to go and have a read.

Many of my early posts are about Max and his upcoming assessment, clearly because it was all that was on my mind at that time. Things are different now though and I feel like my blog is much more varied, and I like to think that there is something for everyone.

What I’ve achieved…

I’ve seen a lot of bloggers doing these posts and they will often talk about their stats, which is fine, but I’m not going to do that. I would be lying if I said that stats didn’t motivate me, but it’s not why I do this. I do it because I enjoy it, honestly it really is the best thing I’ve ever done.

I’ve worked with some amazing brands over the past few months and had some fantastic opportunities. A year ago I would never have dreamt that I would be working with brands such as Cosatto, Green People, Mega Bloks and more.

Something that I’m really proud of is my Tots 100 ranking (which is a parenting bloggers chart for anyone who doesn’t know what I’m talking about), I’m currently ranked 245 out of about 8,000 UK parent blogs which I don’t think is too shabby to say I’m only a year in to this. Last year I was also shortlisted in the BiB awards which was a complete shock and something I am still extremely proud of. Of course I didn’t win, but I genuinely didn’t care because being nominated alone was enough after only four months of blogging. It still blows my mind that people actually want to read about me and my life.

One thing that I didn’t expect blogging to bring me was an income. I haven’t earnt my own money for years and so now having my own income and not having to rely on my husband so much is great. Making money from my blog isn’t my priority and I don’t think it ever will be, but it’s definitely a nice little perk!

My top three posts –

  1. Mothercare Little Bird SS17
  2. Welcome to Holland | An Autism Poem
  3. Our Living Room Makeover
What’s next?

Things will continue pretty much as they are around here, I feel like I’ve found a good balance. I will continue to write about our days out, holidays, the odd review and giveaway. I’ve recently started to do more fashion posts, which I’m really enjoying doing so I want to continue with that. I also want to do more interiors posts as that’s something that I’m very passionate about and they are always really popular with my readers.

I would like to continue to monetise my blog, so there will still be the occasional sponsored post on here but I want to be more selective about what I’m publishing. It’s very tempting as a blogger when your offered money for a post to accept it without thinking too much about it, and I am guilty of accepting posts that I now wish I hadn’t. But I guess that’s all part of learning and finding my own place in the blogging world. I do however only ever post content that I feel is relevant to me and my readers, so that will of course stay the same.

Thank you so much to everyone that’s read, liked, commented and shared my content over the past year, it means so much to me!

I’d love to hear from you, what do you enjoy about my blog? What are your favourite kind of posts?

Thanks for reading.
