Taking the time to unwind is so important and especially if like me, you find that you can get overwhelmed and stressed quite easily. There’s a few rituals and products I’ve found over the years that have helped me to relax when I’m feeling particularly stressed.
A bit part of unwinding for me is just having some quite time away from all the noise and rushing around that comes with having children. Even if that’s in an evening when they are in bed, or just 10 minutes while they are occupied. Put down your phone, turn off the TV and enjoy some peace and quiet.
Exercise, particularly walking and yoga are also really great ways to relax and unwind at the end of a day, or even in the morning to get your day off to the best possible start.
Another thing that I find helps me to relax is having a bath. This is hands down my favourite way to relax and hit the pause button for a while. Grab a good book and glass of wine and you’ve got yourself the ultimate relaxation.
In terms of products, here are a few that I love and couldn’t be without now…
Essential oils are great for helping you to relax and can be used in lots of different ways. Lavender, chamomile and ylang ylang are great oils for relaxation. I just pop a few drops into my bath, it smells amazing and really does have such a calming effect on me.
As I mentioned earlier, baths are my absolute favourite way to relax and as well as adding a few drops of essential oil to my bath I have to have a bath bomb too. I go to Lush for my bath bombs and bubble bars as I love the smell and variety of products available. Lush have lots of bath bombs that are great for relaxation, some of my favourites are Big Blue, Butterball and Twilight.
Another great way to relax is to light a candle. Personally I don’t think it matters too much what the scent is, as long as it’s one that you enjoy. But if you are on the lookout for a calming scent however, some great ones are the Neom tranquility scented candle, Yankee Candle lavender and Jo Malone’s lime, basil and mandarin.
Whether you love the taste of herbal teas or not, there’s no denying that they are full of good stuff and really do have a calming effect on us. I like to have a cup of herbal tea before bed, I find it helps me to feel sleepy. My favourites are Twinings peppermint tea and Pukka night time tea.
If you are feeling particularly anxious, I highly recommend trying Nelson’s Rescue Remedy if you haven’t already. They have lots of different products available now but I tend to just use the original dropper formula. It’s a combination of five individual flower essences for emotional wellbeing and care for everyday life. Whether it genuinely works or it’s just a placebo effect I don’t know, but I find it does the trick for me either way.
What products do you use to help you unwind at home?
