OUR SUMMER PLANS

summer plans

Schools out for summer, and all that! Usually I wouldn’t be overly excited for school holidays because my husband is often working so it’s just me and the kids struggling to find things to do. But this summer has actually ended up being pretty jam-packed and I am so excited for it!

Last summer seems like a lifetime ago now. I think that’s because so much seems to have changed since then. The kids have grown up so much and of course Evie started school. I cannot believe reception is over for her already. It’s been strange not having her around all the time, so I’m looking forward to spending a whole six weeks with her.

Here’s what we’re getting up to this summer…

Italy

As you read this, we will be in Italy! We’ve never been before so we are all really excited to explore and to spend some quality time together as a family. We are staying at a Eurocamp site close to Venice. It looks perfect for the kids with lots of activities and a fantastic kids pool with lots of water slides. We can’t wait!

If you’ve ever been to Venice, do let me know if you have any recommendations.

Road trip

The weekend after we get back from Italy we are off on a little Scottish road trip as part of some work that I’m doing with a brand. I’ll be posting lots over on Instagram and a round-up blog post after, so keep an eye out for that. We’re going to be around Hamilton, Abington and Gretna. So if you have any recommendations, particularly places to eat, let me know!

Cinema

I’m really enjoying taking the kids to the cinema at the moment. This time last year I don’t think my two would have sat still through a whole movie. But now, they love it! We’ve seen Peter Rabbit and Coco in the past few months and the kids have asked to go again in the summer holidays. I think Incredibles 2 will be the film of choice this time.

A child free night away

Last year was our fifth wedding anniversary and we wanted to celebrate by having a night away at the hotel we got married in. But unfortunately it was fully booked with weddings, so we didn’t get to go. I was determined to go this year instead, but again things kept getting in the way. Our actual anniversary is the day after we get back from Italy so we decided that wouldn’t be a good idea. We’ve also had problems working out a date around childcare and my husbands work rota. But eventually we managed to book a date in, yay! It is a couple of weeks after our anniversary but better late than never ey? I reckon it will be very much needed after three weeks of the kids being off school!

Seaside

Every summer I say that we’ll spend at least one day at the seaside. It’s something that I remember doing a lot as a kid and I want my kids to have the same childhood memories of the good old British seaside. Our summer is already pretty full but I am determined to fit in at least one day at our closest beach.

National Trust

We are National Trust members and always trying and failing to make the most of our membership. I think we’ve only used it twice so far this year, which is pretty poor really. I’d like to get out and explore some new National Trust properties if we get the time. There really is nothing better than a family picnic in the sunshine at a National Trust site, and Poppy can come too!

Cornwall

We are hoping to go to Cornwall at the end of the summer holidays for a week. We haven’t booked anything yet, we’re just waiting until after Italy to see if we can afford it. But all being well, we’ll be booking that really soon. Hopefully there will still be availability, as I know how popular Cornwall is in summer! We’re planning on taking Poppy with us, we’d feel too guilty leaving her for a third time in just a few weeks. She’s actually really great in the car so that doesn’t worry us. If there’s any dog friendly places you know of in Cornwall, I would love to know.

What are your plans for the summer?

Thank you for reading.
