If you have kids or remember being one yourself, you’ll know how magical Christmas is during your early years. It’s a time when dreams come true, magical characters come to life and when treasured family traditions are celebrated.
If your children are looking forward to the festive holiday this year, there are plenty of ways to make it extra special. Whether that includes baking something Christmassy together, visiting Santa’s grotto or decorating the house, these early Christmases are precious and will create beautiful memories that might inform the traditions of the next generation.
Make the most of the countdown
Half the fun of Christmas is all the anticipation that precedes it! And there’s plenty to do during Advent that will make the countdown all that more special. Make a day or evening of it and handcraft some Christmas cards to send to Santa and loved ones, bake some cookies or make Christmas dinner prep fun with some games and music.
There are also lots of events that you can enjoy together. Take in a dazzling light show at your local ‘switch on’ before heading to the pantomime for a well-earned giggle. Alternatively, you could take a trip on the polar express train ride to really get you into the Christmas spirit.

Go wild for decorations
You’re likely to spend a lot of time at home over Christmas, so why not make it really magical with a whole host of decorations that you can buy or make yourself? Get everyone together to decorate the Christmas tree, cut out some snowflakes to stick in the windows and head to the woods to collect ferns for a showstopping wreath.
And it doesn’t have to be limited to the indoors either. Make it a Winter Wonderland the minute you drive up to the house with some outdoor light-up reindeer, wrap some fairy lights around the trees and hang baubles wherever there’s space. There are no rules!
Write letters to Santa
The magic and mystery of Santa is precious to children. Make the most of it whilst they’re still young by writing letters to Santa which you can treasure as physical momentos when they grow up. Not only does it make Santa seem more real, but it also might give you some pointers about what to get them for a present!
Then, prepare for Santa’s visit together on Christmas Eve, leaving out carrots and mince pies as a treat when he comes down the chimney. Finally, add some footprints in the snow and fill up the stockings for the ultimate Christmas morning surprise.
