If you are a keen crafter, have you ever considered getting creative with rope? If not, you should! The possibilities are endless with rope and the finished article is guaranteed to wow! Maybe you’re looking to give some handmade gifts this Christmas? Below are 10 rope craft ideas that are sure to make fantastic Christmas presents…

1. Rug

Believe it or not, you can actually make a knotted rug from rope yourself, and it’s really not that difficult to do! Pinterest is a great place to start for ideas and even step by step instructions. You can purchase ropes from Ropes Direct who stock a huge variety of rope types, colours and thicknesses.

2. Macrame

Macrame wall hangings are incredibly popular at the moment and it’s not difficult to see why. They look fantastic and are actually quite easy to do once you’ve got the hang of it. There’s plenty of tutorials out there online, so take a look somewhere like YouTube before you get started.

3. Sign

Rope signs are another great gift idea. You may have already seen rope wording signs around and wondered how they are made. Well, it’s actually pretty straight forward. One method is to dip the rope into glue and then simply shape the rope into your chosen word and allow to dry. Or you can use a glue gun to stick your rope onto a wooden sign. It may get a little messy but the results are definitely worth it.

4. Lampshade

Got an old lampshade that needs sprucing up? Grab some rope and your hot glue gun and simply wrap the rope all the way around the lampshade. Once you’re finished your lampshade will look completely different. A great addition a nautical themed room.

5. Mirror frame

Similarly, if you want to make over an old mirror you can do this with rope! All you’ll need is an old mirror, a glue gun and the rope of your choice. The below image shows you just how easy it is to create a fabulous rope mirror frame.

6. Drawer handles

Want to give an old set of drawers a brand new look? A great way to do this is to firstly paint it and then add some new handles. Rope handles look great and create a really unique effect.

7. Jewellery

As I mentioned early, rope doesn’t have to be the really thick stuff that you first think off. There’s lots and lots of different types out there and some is ideal for making jewellery. Knotted rope necklaces, bracelets, anklets and even earrings are easily achievable with rope.

8. Door stop

Adding a nautical touch to a room is easily done with a rope door stop. These are really popular and can be quite expensive when bought from a shop. But the good news is you can easily make one yourself for a fraction of the store price! Have a search online for a tutorial and you’ll have your nautical door stop in place in no time.

9. Basket

Rope baskets are probably my favourite rope craft of all. They are one of the easiest to do and there’s so many possibilities. Want a new pot for your makeup brushes, easy! Or a basket for your new house plant, simple!

10. Placemats and coasters

This one is a similar method to the rug I mentioned earlier, just on a smaller scale. This would also make a fantastic christmas gift. Tie some ribbon around a set of four coasters and you’ve got yourself a lovely little homemade gift for someone special!
