THE ONE TRICK THAT INSTANTLY MAKES ME LOOK MORE AWAKE

Some mornings, my face shows up to life about three hours late. I’ve had coffee. I’ve done the whole “splash cold water and manifest energy” routine. Still, I look like I just time-traveled from a very emotionally draining 2006.

But there’s one beauty trick—fast, foolproof, and absolutely game-changing—that never fails to make me look awake, alive, and semi-ready to interact with the public. It’s not magic (though the results are magical). It’s a combo of quick makeup and false lashes.

Yes, lashes. Even on a Tuesday. Especially on a Tuesday.

The Trick: Bright Eyes in 5 Minutes Flat

The secret is in the illusion. When you open up your eyes with well-placed makeup and falsies, you instantly fake the appearance of rest, alertness, and low-key glamour. It’s like caffeine for your face—but legal, and with way fewer bathroom breaks.

Here’s the routine that turns my “barely functioning” into “fresh-faced and suspiciously put-together” faster than you can say double espresso.

Step 1: Light Base, Not a Full Beat

This is not a 45-minute contouring situation. The goal here is awake, not auditioning for a beauty tutorial. I start with:

  • A moisturizer with glow (bonus if it has SPF)
  • A touch of concealer under the eyes, dabbed in with a finger
  • A bit of cream blush high on the cheeks for that “I just had fresh air and feelings” look

That’s it for skin—dewy, alive, and no risk of cakey regret.

Step 2: Neutral Eye Shadow, Strategically Placed

One swipe of something warm and taupey across the lid. Then something a little lighter (champagne, ivory, soft peach) in the inner corner and on the brow bone.

Why? Bright tones reflect light and instantly lift the eye area. It’s subtle, it’s effective, and it buys you the illusion of alertness even if you were watching TV at 1 a.m. asking yourself deep questions about life and snacks.

Step 3: The Lash Lift (No Salon Appointment Required)

False lashes from DYSILK are the real star here. Not the full glam kind that might fly away in a strong breeze. I’m talking:

  • Natural-looking strip lashes that add lift, not weight
  • Or half lashes on the outer corners for a mini cat-eye effect
  • Individual clusters if you’re feeling extra precise

The key is to focus the volume on the outer half of the eye—it gives a lifted, wide-awake look that works even when your soul is still asleep.

And yes, I glue them on with one hand while holding coffee in the other. That’s the kind of multitasking you master when you’re chronically tired but deeply vain.

Step 4: Finish With a Curl and Mascara

Even with falsies, I curl them lightly after they’re on to blend them into my real lashes. Then a quick swipe of mascara to fuse everything together. You want it to look like one flawless, fluttery unit—not a battle between teams natural and synthetic.

Instant drama, zero effort.

Step 5: Brows and Balm

I swipe through my brows with a tinted gel—just to remind the world that I do, in fact, have facial structure. Then it’s a glossy lip balm or a sheer tint.

The combo of glowing skin, brightened eyes, and fluttery lashes = instantly awake, mildly intimidating, and suspiciously well-rested.

Why It Works

When you’re tired, your eyes give it away first. Droopy lids, dark circles, and that dull, unfocused stare that says “I’m physically here, but spiritually I’m napping.”

But lashes? They open your face. They lift your expression. They add definition without heaviness. Even a lightweight pair can transform your whole vibe.

Pair it with a little glow and a hint of color, and suddenly people think you slept well, drank water, and aren’t stressed about your inbox. (Fools.)

It’s Not Vanity. It’s Survival.

I don’t do this routine to impress anyone. I do it because it makes me feel more awake—which somehow leads to actually being more awake. It’s a visual pep talk. A lash-powered placebo effect.

Sleep is great. But a five-minute lash lift? That’s power.
