Spring is here (hooray!), which means that many of us will have started to think about spending more time outside. Lounging in the sunshine, BBQs and the children spending hours playing in the garden… But the winter months can be harsh on our gardens, so spring is the perfect time to tidy and freshen up ready for better weather.
Here are five simple steps you can take to get your garden ready for spring…
1. Invest in new garden furniture
Probably the quickest and easiest way to change up your garden is to buy some new furniture. Whether it’s a modern rattan set, a new gazebo, a kids play set or a patio heater, there’s lots of options. Outdoor living specialists Garden and Camping have everything you could possibly need for your garden this spring.
2. Garden maintenance
After the winter months, there’s lots of general maintenance and tidying up that needs to be done in our gardens. Getting rid of dead leaves and weeds will be at the top of the list. Maybe you’ll need to repaint furniture or fencing. And it might be a good time to consider re-staining your decking if you have it, this is a great way to make sure it is protected in all weather.
3. Give your lawn a new lease of life
Our lawns can look very tired after winter and we’ll often find that we have dead patches that need a little bit of help. You might decide to lay some new turf, use grass seed or even consider investing in artificial grass.
We have artificial grass in our garden and it’s honestly the best decision we ever made. Of course there is the initial cost to consider, but after that you never need to worry about maintenance again. We actually installed the grass ourselves and found it relatively easy to do, you can read more about it here.
4. Plant some flowers
When the weather improves it’s time to start thinking about planting some flowers and/or vegetables in your garden. I’m not much of a gardener myself but I do like to add some colour to my outdoor space with flowers during the spring months. You really don’t need to be a gardening expert, you can find plenty of information online, including this useful guide from the BBC.
5. Clean your patio
Spring is a good time to give your patio, paths and decking areas a good clean. The best way to do this is with a jet washer which give amazing results. Your patio area will look almost brand new and ready for those summer BBQs when you’re finished.
If you can’t afford to buy a jet washer right now, don’t worry, it might be worth looking to see if anywhere local to you hires them out. This is something that is becoming increasing popular and it also means that you don’t have to find a storage space for it. Win, win.
