8 EASY WAYS TO GET YOUR GARDEN SUMMER READY

As you may know, we are currently renovating our garden. We have lots still to do but I cannot wait until it’s finished and we can enjoy the summer months in our outdoor space. Now, I’m no gardener but I am keen to get our garden looking as green and lush as possible so I have been researching ways to do this as a beginner.

Below are 8 easy ways to get your garden summer ready…

1. Overseed your lawn

Spring is the best time of year to overseed your lawn. After winter you will likely be left with some worn or bare patches in your grass that can look unsightly. Reseeding will help to get your grass in the best possible shape for summer. Simply scatter grass seed on any areas that need it, add fertilizer and keep moist.

2. Weeding

Now is the time to get out in the garden and start removing all of those pesky weeds. You can do this by using a weed killer spray, or by pulling them out by hand. When pulling weeds out of the ground, you might not get the whole root out meaning it could grown back. So it is best to pull the weed out and then cover the area with weed killer.

3. Clean patio and furniture

Cleaning your patio area and furniture can feel like a difficult task, but it is worth it as it will make your garden look so much cleaner and fresher. Jet washing is the best way to remove all of the dirt and grime. You can also use a specialist patio cleaner to help you with this task. If you have a wooden patio, you might want to check them first before calling an expert to clean and maintain them. They might need some repair or replacement. If so, you might want to shift from using a wooden patio to a composite material like trex select boards to have better sustainability over time.

4. A lick of paint

Why not paint your fence panels and/or your garden shed? To give your garden a brand new look. Or, if they are already painted, simply freshen them up with a fresh coat of paint. Jobs like this can make such a difference to a garden.

5. Grow your own!

Spring is the perfect time to sow your vegetable seeds. You can buy vegetable seeds online from Beetham Nurseries. Here you’ll find broad beans, brussel sprouts, cabbage, carrots, courgette and more!

6. Tidy up borders

It’s time to tidy up those borders, ready for planting. You could add some edging which will really neaten it up. Remove any weeds and tidy up any existing plants and shrubs. This will leave you with gaps that you can start planning to fill. Alternatively, you could consider hiring a professional to help you out. Easefix offers affordable gardening services in UK.

7. Planting

Many vegetable plants, flowers and shrubs can be planted in spring. After tidying your borders you will now be able to start planting. When it comes to vegetables, choosing plants over seeds could be easier if you’re new to gardening as they have been nurtured by experts and will of course produce vegetables sooner than sowing seeds would. You can find vegetable plants for sale at Beetham Nurseries, this is a great activity to get the kids involved with too.

8. Tidy shed and garage

Now is a good time to give your shed and garage a tidy. Reorganise and clean all of your gardening equipment. Make sure that everything you will need over summer, such as a lawn mower and strimmer, are easy to get to. You should also use this time to check that everything is still working, and replace anything that isn’t.

Is your garden summer ready yet? How are you preparing?
