BRINGING YOUR HOUSE OUT OF WINTER IN STYLE

Every winter, most of us start to settle into a far more domesticated lifestyle. We retreat into the warmth, comfort and safety of our own homes, creating little havens to get out of the hectic and cold world buzzing around outside.

Come spring and summer, however, it’s likely time to change things up a bit. As you start to welcome more people into your home for dinners and drinks, and you start to go out more yourself, it’s time to prepare your house and bring it out of winter in style.

Get rid of clutter

The first thing to do to bring your house into the spring season is to have a massive declutter. Try to be as ruthless as possible, getting rid of any items that are no longer truly serving you. Don’t try to do this all at once.

It’s easy to get overwhelmed by the sheer number of memories attached to all your possessions, and if that happens, it’s possible that you’ll just give up and leave it until next year. Instead, try to declutter by room or by category, so that you can break the overarching process up into manageable bite sizes.

Repaint your interior

Another great way to bring your house out of winter and into a new season is to repaint your interior spaces. Paint can start to look pretty bad after a few years anyway, with chips, marks, and general fading.

As you’ll have to do it at some point anyway, why not integrate it into your general springtime freshening project? You can either go with the same old colour that you had before, or even better, choose something a little brighter to mix things up a little.

Bring in some artwork

You can also help to revamp your home and brighten it up by bringing in some nice pieces of art. These could be simple pictures of flowers, a vase made by a local potter to keep real flowers in, or a colourful throw that goes on your sofa or favourite chair.

These little bits of art act as more than mere decorations; they can provide the eye with new stimuli, creating the illusion of a new space. As you come out of winter, this can help you to embrace a new season, with exciting new possibilities to embrace.

House plants

Lastly, it’s a great idea to bring in some natural elements to remind you of the change in season. If you want something a little longer lasting than flowers, you can pick up a few houseplants. Take a look at your local garden centre, and any florists in your area. Just don’t forget to water them, if you want to have the plants for long!

By implementing these simple ideas, you can really have a substantial impact on how your home feels to spend time in. It’s important to really make the most of spring and summer – it’ll be gone before you know it, and you want to have as many nice memories as possible in the bank.
