If you have a small bedroom in your house, you will know just how difficult it can be to get the most out of the space. My daughters bedroom is a really small box room and although we are very limited for space, I think we’ve done a pretty good job with it.
I wrote a post all about her bedroom makeover last year, you can read more about that here.
Here are a few things that you can do to use the space effectively in a small bedroom…
Buy a small divan bed
A bed is most likely the biggest piece of furniture in your bedroom and when you are limited for space, it’s a good idea to look at smaller alternatives. The Sleep Station have a great range of small 4ft double divan beds, which not only take up less space in a room, but they also give you plenty of storage space underneath. Win, win!
Clever storage ideas
When you’re working with a really small space, you need to think outside the box when it comes to storage solutions. As I mentioned above, underbed storage is a great use of space, as are clothing rails instead of wardrobes. Also think about using hanging racks on the back of doors for clothes, shoes, accessories etc. Don’t let any space go unused!

Use light, bright colours when decorating
Small spaces appear much bigger when they are decorated in bright, light colour palettes. Personally I would keep it simple with white walls and just add a few colourful accessories and wall art, this will ensure that your bedroom appears as spacious as it can.
Dark paint is absolutely everywhere at the moment and it can be stunning in the right space, but it just doesn’t work well in a small bedroom, so my advice would be to try to avoid it.
Mirrors, mirrors, mirrors!
Mirrors are a fantastic and really easy way to make a room appear bigger than it actually is. If you do opt to have wardrobes in your small bedroom, a good idea is to install full length mirrored wardrobe doors. You will be amazed at how much bigger this makes the room feel.
Make the most of wall space
If you are limited for floor space, then why not use your walls! How about a floating desk? Or better still, one that folds away? Use shelving around your walls anywhere and everywhere you can to maximise storage space. You’ll also find that there’s lots of wall mounted storage units around at the moment which will not only make the most of your space, but look stylish too.
