Like most people in Sheffield, when I first heard that IKEA was opening a store here I was so excited! No more driving to Leeds or Nottingham for my fix of Swedish meatballs! It feels like we’ve been waiting ages for the opening though, doesn’t it? But the wait is very nearly over…
The new store
Today I got to look around the new store, ahead of it’s official opening at 10am on Thursday 28th September. If you fancy having a look around the store before it opens there are some IKEA family events happening this week. You can find out more about them here. When the store has officially opened you can even take a guided tour around, where you’ll learn about the services on offer, the stories behind the roomsets and how the store has been tailored to suit the way people live in Sheffield.
The store, located on Sheffield Road in Tinsley, is every bit as amazing as I had expected it to be. It is is a whopping 35,000 sq m and although I’m not sure how that compares to the nearby Leeds and Nottingham stores, it certain felt pretty huge as we were walking around.
In terms of store layout, you’ll find the showroom on the upper level and downstairs is the self service area. This is a little different to what I am used to at the Leeds store, but I feel it works well. The restaurant is located near the store entrance which is great if you want to grab a cuppa before shopping.
A look around
Here are a few photos I took around the store today…
IKEA Sheffield will be open 10am – 9pm Monday to Saturday and Sunday 11am – 5pm.
Hands up who’s excited for IKEA Sheffield to finally open?!
