WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT EMULSION PAINT

We’ve all been there… at the decorating centre looking at thousands of paint tins not knowing which one is the right one. Some say emulsion paint others say eggshell paint, what does it all mean? Couldn’t it just say kitchen paint or living room paint?

All of these words that sound like jargon for those without any decorating knowledge make the experience of buying one tin of paint that much more difficult than it should be. I know, I’ve been there. Even though now I know the meaning of these fancy paint words, I didn’t use to.

Maybe you don’t know much about decorating. Maybe you’d like to know more. Maybe you know a little bit about decorating but the word “emulsion paint” has gone straight over your head. No matter where you are in your decorating journey, today I’m (hopefully) giving you a helping hand by answering some of the most frequently asked questions about emulsion paint.

But that’s not all! I’m accompanied by Kent Blaxill, a decorating centre with a variety of branches all across the East of England and the Midlands. Kent Blaxill stock emulsion paint, metal paint, masonry paint and any other type of paint you will ever need for your decorating project! Kent Blaxill has served the Colchester area in Essex since 1838, so they have the experience (and expertise!) to join me today to share some professional knowledge about emulsion paint.

What is emulsion paint?

Let’s start with the basics, what the heck is emulsion paint? Emulsion paint is a water-based paint designed for walls and ceilings. Also called emulsion for short, emulsion paint is fast drying and emits less of an odour than other paints.

Buckets of Tea explained that “As a water-based paint, emulsion paint will dry quickly and will make cleaning paintbrushes, paint rollers and any other decorating tools much easier.”

Is emulsion paint washable?

Some types of emulsion paint are better than others when it comes to their washable qualities. A good washable paint can be easily wiped or scrubbed without damaging the paintwork. Good Housekeeping recommends Crown Trade Clean Extreme Stain Resistant Scrubbable Paint “for hallways and areas of your home prone to scuffing.”

Can emulsion paint be used on wood?

Emulsion paints are not recommended for wood. As the team at Kent Blaxill explains, most wood varieties are porous and will absorb most of the paint during the application, so you will have to apply more coats of paint than you would with wood paint.

Which emulsion paint is best?

There are many good-quality emulsion paints available in the market, so which one should you choose? It will depend on your requirements and personal preference (when it comes to finishes and paint colours). Some highly popular emulsion paints include Dulux Trade emulsion paints, such as white emulsion. Life on the Lock comments that Dulux paints colours “feature great quality and offer fantastic coverage!” Farrow & Ball emulsions and Tikkurila paints are also great choices to paint walls and ceilings.

When renovating your living room, in addition to using latex paint to paint the walls and ceilings, you can also use some unique and personalized items to decorate the walls. For example, customizing neon lights will bring you many innovative ideas.

The large-scale color layout of latex paint provides a stage for the personalized expression of neon lights. You can design neon lights into any style you like, add some special text, and add a lot of different styles to ordinary walls. “Neon Signs Australia” has what you want.
