5 WAYS TO MAKE THE JOB SEARCH EASIER

Finding a new job can be stressful, especially if you have already left your previous one.

It’s always better to have a new career lined up before you hand in your resignation, but this isn’t always possible.

If you’re in the process of finding your next position, then here are five ways to make that hunt a little easier.

1. Be Social Media Savvy

Social media is an increasingly popular tool for recruiters and job seekers alike.

Jobs are being advertised on various platforms more than ever before, and almost of 80% job seekers have used social media in their search.

Platforms such as LinkedIn can provide valuable resources, helping you find job openings and allowing you to make strong industry connections.

Of course, it’s also important to preen your presence on social media too. If you have any potentially embarrassing posts, you should delete them before you start your applications.

2. Perfect Your CV

A good CV is essential, it needs to be clear and concise. Thorough, but not too long.

You want to summarise your skills and experience, highlight your achievements, and show off your qualifications.

You want to make sure that your CV is easy for an employer to read, if they’re skimming a number of them, you don’t want yours to be deemed too much effort.

Limit the number of paragraphs and opt for bullet point lists wherever possible.

3. Not All Recruitment Looks the Same

It’s important to remember that recruitment processes can vary drastically, particularly between large and small companies, so how you apply and your experience with the application, interview, and selection processes will be different.

Larger companies are increasingly favouring high volume hiring as a means to acquire lots of staff in a short space of time. They often implement software such as Oleeo’s Volume Hiring tools to get the job done efficiently.

Research the job thoroughly, and make sure to include keywords in your CV.

4. Never Forget the Cover Letter

A cover letter is essential when applying to a job, and while not every employer will read them, they do expect them. In fact 83% of hiring managers said that a good cover letter was an important factor in their hiring decisions.

Your cover letter is the perfect place for you to show your personality; letting your potential employer know why you’re a good fit for the role, but just as importantly, for the company on the whole.

They want to know that you’re going to fit in with the rest of the team.

5. Be Interview Ready

Whether you have one interview to attend or ten, you should be equally prepared for each of them.

Practise potential questions beforehand, ensure that you’re smartly dressed and on time.

Hiring managers can make their decision on whether to hire a candidate within the first 90 seconds of the interview, so a good first impression is essential.
