So you have your blog up and running but now you want to know if it’s possible to make money from it? The good news is, it absolutely is possible to make a decent income from blogging. Whether you’re looking for a little extra pocket money or you want to make a full time income from your blog, there are a few different income streams to consider. Read on to find out more.
1. Sponsored content
For me, my main source of income comes from sponsored content. This is essentially a blog post dedicated to a brand. It could also be that a business wants to pay for their product or service to be mentioned in one of your existing articles. So how do you find sponsored opportunities? Once you’ve built up a successful website you will find that you’ll be contacted directly by a brand or seo agency. You should build up a list of contacts and reach out to them regularly to see if they have any new opportunities for you. Work up a relationship with other bloggers too and share contacts and jobs with each other. There are also many blogging opportunity platforms out there where you can apply for sponsored opportunities.
2. Affiliate links
Another way to make money from your blog is via affiliate links. There are lots of affiliate platforms around, so do a little research and find a few that you think will work for you and your content niche. An affiliate link allows you to earn a small commission every time someone clicks your link, or in some cases makes a purchase via your link. It may only be a few pence, but in a popular blog post this has the potential to earn you a good amount over time.
3. Banner adverts
Banner ads, or sidebar ads are exactly that; an advert that sits at the top of your homepage, or on your sidebar. These ads are placed by brands directly or via Google Adsense which you can choose to sign up to. The idea is that it’s the first thing that people visiting your website see when they land on your homepage.

4. Guest post for other publications
I have written content for other brands websites and made money from doing this. You may be approached directly to do this or you could reach out to some brands you have previously worked with. Some websites have regular guest posters who will be paid per word. This doesn’t usually bring in big money but if you enjoy writing it’s definitely a good way to bring in some extra cash.
5. Sell digital products
You could use your platform to see a range of digital products such as ebooks or online courses. Many bloggers will offer online courses to people who are looking to start up a successful blog. It may take a little time and planning to get your online course of the ground but once you’ve done this you have another income stream for as long as you want it.
I hope this post has been helpful to you. As someone who has been blogging for over six years and now does it as a full time job, I hope I’m able to offer some constructive advice. If you do have any questions at all feel free to leave a comment or send me a message over on Instagram.
Thank you for reading.
