EASY IDEAS FOR A RELAXING ‘ME TIME’ BREAK

If you’re struggling to find time for yourself within a busy, hectic schedule, then it’s important to remember to keep it simple. By taking a moment every now and then, even if it’s only for five minutes, you can give yourself the mental energy you need to attack the major challenges life has in store.

So, what changes might you make to improve things for yourself? Let’s consider a few of them.

Create a Cosy Space

It’s important that you have at least one space in the home where you feel utterly at ease. This might mean a chair in a corner somewhere, where you can simply take a moment.

You can use blankets, candles, and other aids to make the space even more relaxing. If you aren’t using the space for anything other than relaxing, then it will be much more effective. So, don’t be tempted to answer work emails in this space.

Indulge in Your Favourite Treats

Occasionally, it’s a good idea to provide yourself with a favourite snack or beverage. You can consider this a reward for hard work or good behaviour – or, you can consider it one of the small things that make life pleasant. You might destress by grabbing a coffee or tea during your lunch break, for example.

In some cases, you might make the treat yourself. In others, you might buy it. Either way, the ritual of actually acquiring the delicacy – and the anticipation that comes with it – can be just as rewarding as the food itself. Just make sure that your chosen treat isn’t too unhealthy!

Get Lost in a Book or Podcast

There’s more content out there than there ever has been. Whether you prefer to listen to a book, or to read one yourself, setting aside just twenty minutes a day to read just a few pages can be enormously beneficial.

The same goes for podcasts. Reading comes with plenty of mental health benefits – and the pleasure of immersing yourself in a great story – or discussion, or chat – is its own reward.

Pick out books or podcasts that appeal to you, and don’t feel that you need to try to tackle material that’s too dense or clever – this, after all, is your unwinding time.

Take a Break Outdoors

Getting out into nature has a variety of psychological advantages. You might go for a walk in the park, or spend time gardening – or, you might take things more seriously with a schedule for jogging and other, more intense outdoor exercise.

Time spent outdoors, and especially in nature, is extremely good for you. You’ll get clarity, mental focus, and other benefits that are difficult to quantify!

Thank you for reading.
