giving up alcohol

I have decided to give up alcohol for a whole month… and now that I’ve wrote it down in a blog post, there really is no going back! Those of you who know me well will know that I love a glass of red wine, so I think this is going to be quite a challenge for me.

So why am I giving it up?

I usually drink 2 – 3 times a week and each time I’ll drink 2 maybe 3 glasses of usually wine, sometimes gin. I am a total lightweight so if I drink more than that I’ll most likely be on the floor! I really don’t drink to get drunk, just to unwind. But I feel like I’ve become quite reliant on it, especially since having the kids. It’s just what I do as a way to de-stress in an evening.

I don’t think that my drinking is a problem but I would like to cut down and I guess just prove to myself that I can do it if I want to. Apart from that I hope that I might see an improvement in my skin, energy levels and maybe even my weight. Although I imagine I’m going to be eating all the food as a substitute. But I am interested to see what effect this detox will have on my body.

We’re only on day two but it’s a Friday so this is the real challenge. The husband is off work tonight and we’re getting a chinese takeaway so it will be odd not having a glass of wine in my hand. I’m expecting I’ll find the first week or so the hardest and hopefully after that it will get easier.
