The Importance of Sleep with The Junior Fine Bedding Company

Sleep is important for us all, but even more so for young children with experts recommending that they should get 10 – 12 hours of sleep per night.

So according to NHS guidelines Evie should be having 11.5 – 12 hours of sleep at night and up to a 45 minute nap during the day. Evie rarely naps during the day now, if she does, it will just be a quick 15 minute car nap. She is usually asleep around 7:30pm and awake around 6:30/7am so she’s just about getting what she should be.

Max, at 5 years old, should be getting 10 – 11 hours sleep at night. Max goes to bed at the same time as Evie but rarely falls asleep straight away. He struggles to shut off at night so it can take him until 9pm to fall asleep, but even so, he’s still getting enough sleep according to these guidelines.

But why is sleep so important? Other than grumpy moods how else can not sleeping enough affect children? Well experts say that lack of sleep can affect learning and memory ability which is closely linked to academic performance. Obesity, a reduced immune system, bad moods and behaviour and even depression have also been linked to sleep deprivation in children.

Bedtime routine is really important for us and it’s something that we’ve done since the kids were babies. Our routine usually starts with a bath, we turn off the lights and use the night lights instead, we then have a cuddle and a bedtime story before lights out. It works well for us (in Evie’s case anyway!) and it’s something we will continue to do.

Bedding is a big part of getting a child to sleep well. The Fine Bedding Company has recognised this and has released a new range of children’s bedding.

The Junior Fine Bedding Company range includes a number of top quality bedroom essentials, including the light as air Washable Duvet, and Washable Pillow, made from microfibre and encased in sumptuously soft peachskin.

The range also includes;

  • Anti Allergy Mattress Protector for babies and toddlers with sensitive skin, the hypo-allergenic material features a dust mite barrier to protect against allergic reactions. As well as being totally waterproof, it has a silky soft 100% cotton cover.
  • Travel Cot Liner with a thick non slip under cover to keep it in place while you’re out and about.
  • Protector Pad with peach soft cover to help guard against night time accidents, easily transportable and can also double up as a handy play mat.

Prices start from £12.00.

A mattress protector is a must have for us as Evie will be coming out of her bed time pull-ups in the not too distant future. We did try a few months ago but we were waking up to a wet mattress every other morning so we decided to go back to pull-ups for a while. If only we’d had one of these mattress protectors back then!

How do you help your children to sleep well at night?

Thanks for reading.

    I need to get back into some kind of routine. My 1 year old is only sleeping about seven or eight hours a night, but having a two hour nap during the day. Perhaps I’ll try your bath and lights out technique. (: x
