Time to Get Organised

I’ve really been struggling to organise my life recently. I feel like there just aren’t enough hours in the day to get things done and I end up a big stressed out mess far more often than I should!

I forget things, end up rushing to get things done at the last minute and this goes for pretty much every aspect of my life. So I’ve decided it’s time to make a change and get myself organised and here’s how I’m going to do it…

Social life

To start with, I need a diary! I won’t pretend that I have a particularly exciting social life but I do have the odd play date or catch up with a friend and I’ve recently developed a bad habit of forgetting until the last minute or worse, double booking myself! And lets not even think about the birthdays that I’ve forgotten..

Although I’ve had diaries in the past, I’ve never managed to stick to using one. I always start off using it regularly but then start slacking and then it’s not long before I’ve forgotten about it all together. My plan is to get one to keep in my handbag, that way I can quickly jot things down whenever I need to. Because thinking to myself “oh I’ll write that in my diary when I get home” just doesn’t work!

Blogging is tough! There is so much to think about and you really need to be super organised. I’ve only been doing this for seven months so so far I’ve been plodding along OK, but I’m getting busier and busier now as my blog is taking off and I’m finding that I need to start planning and prioritising a little better.

The lovely people at Toad Diaries sent me this fantastic blogger journal which will be a huge help to me.

There’s plenty of space for notes, contacts, goals, plans for the weeks etc, it’s such a great journal and I can already see that it’s going to help me out so much.

Toad Diaries offer a wide range of diaries, journals and notebooks all of which can be personalised. For more information and prices you can visit their website here.

After juggling everything else, the house is always the last thing on my mind. Especially over the summer while the kids have been off school, quite frankly it has been a total mess and I just can’t seem to find the time for tidying and cleaning.

I can just about manage to the bare minimum; hoovering, washing and washing the dishes but that’s about it I’m ashamed to say!

In the past we’ve had a cleaning rota which has worked well for a while but for one reason or another we’ve never ended up sticking to it. So, I’m going to attempt a cleaning rota again, which just has one or two tasks on each day and split between me and my husband, that way it should be manageable and easier to stick to. We tend to split the housework fairly evenly in our house, when my husband is working I do most of it and when he’s off work I tend to catch up on some blog work and he will then help out more with the cooking and cleaning, it works well for us.

Which leads me on to meal planning… I really need to get better at this as we’ve had far too many takeaways over the past couple of months and it needs to stop. Each weekend I’m planning to sit down and write out our meals for the whole week and then do my food shopping based around that. I’d be happy to do meal plan blog posts each week if anyone would be interested, let me know.

How do you stay organised?

Thanks for reading.

OMG I loooove your blogger journal. I also need to get into meal planning. I tried doing it for a few weeks, but I found it to be so hard and time consuming- thinking of all the meals, trying to think if I have the ingredients… I just gave up :))
    PS: Your photos look amazing.

I think maybe once you get into the routine of doing it every week, it gets easier. Thanks for reading 🙂 x

Getting organised seems to be an ongoing struggle for me. I make all the plans, but somehow, things seems to get in the way, and the ‘plan’ never transpires. I do have a diary, but again, need to be more pro-active with it, and stick to it ! I have started to meal plan on weekends, for the week, and then do the shopping accordingly. That does help. I love your Bloggers Diary, and need to look into that, I didn’t even know they existed!
All the best on your side with getting organised. Your post has just given me a ‘wake up’ call 🙂

I’m loving the blog journal! I use a daily planner to manage the kids schedules and house schedule, but the blog stuff always seems to be written on random notes or corners of my planner. Thanks for the inspiration. #TwinklyTuesday

  13. August 23, 2016 / 8:01 pm

You’re completely not alone in this, certainly not the cleaning. A few weeks ago I had a complete meltdown about the cleaning (I blogged about it so I shan’t relive it here!). But the result was a big push to clean the whole house over 2 weeks and now the husband and I are back on a fortnightly rota.

Good luck with your diary. Finding an organisation system makes a massive difference – I’m sure your wonderful blogger journal will help! I’ve just started a Bullet Journal this week and I feel like I’m in control again 🙂

It’s so hard keeping on top of the cleaning isn’t it? It’s an endless battle x

  14. August 23, 2016 / 9:24 pm

Organisation is definitely an area I need to work on! I must have about 6 different notebooks on the go at the minute, although I really found bullet journaling helpful in the past so I want to get back into that. As for the house? I should put a hazard warning on the front door! I can just about keep on top of the basics but the ironing pile is threatening an avalanche.

Love that blogging journal, that’s the one side of my life I haven’t organised yet! Still winging it after seven months too!!

P.s. There is a post about meal planning on my blog if you want a look!! ?

  16. August 24, 2016 / 9:27 am

I need that blogger diary. I can totally relate. Running a buisness, looking after a baby and housework something has to slip. Normally housework haha!!

    • Emma
      August 25, 2016 / 3:04 pm

Yep it’s always the housework that comes last isn’t it! x

  17. August 24, 2016 / 11:51 am

It is so hard! We run a business, I study and now am doing some writing too so the housework and meal planning has totally gone to shit in our house. We try to both do as much as we can as we are both home in the afternoons so this really helps. Makes the afternoons a lot easier with 2 that is for sure. I would love a blogging diary, I feel a bit all over the place with that. And as for my calendar….well my phone if it is lost I am done! It has all the school appointments and days I need to remember and I have reminders and alerts going off all over the place!

    • Emma
      August 25, 2016 / 3:07 pm

Wow it sounds like you have an awful lot going on! I’m so bad at remembering school stuff, he has to remind me about trips and non uniform days! x
