HOLIDAY INN EXPRESS DONCASTER | REVIEW

Holiday Inn Express Doncaster

Last week we were kindly invited along to the Holiday Inn Express in Doncaster for the night. We’d never stayed at a Holiday Inn Express before so we were excited to see what it was like.

Holiday Inn Express Doncaster is perfectly located with Doncaster Sheffield Airport, Doncaster Racecourse, Doncaster Dome and the City Centre just a few minutes drive away. So it’s ideal if you are planning a day out in the area and need somewhere to stay.

“Designed for the smart traveller, Holiday Inn Express means a clean, consistent, and comfortable stay whenever you need to be there in person. We believe any business or personal journey is worth it when a real connection is part of the story. We’re there. So you can be too.”

Also just 10 minutes drive away is Yorkshire Wildlife Park, which Holiday Inn Express kindly offered us tickets for. It’s really convenient that it’s so close to the hotel and we had a fantastic family day out there. We got to see lions, tigers, meerkats and even polar bears! The children were in their element (as were the grown ups!).

We stayed in a double room which included a double bed and a pull out sofa bed for the children to sleep on. I was really surprised at just how nice the decor was in our room. It was very modern, fresh and clean. I particularly liked the dark blue walls and the pops of red.

In our room we also had a TV complete with satellite channels, a desk area and there’s even free high speed internet so if you need to work while you’re there, you can do so easily. I was also pleased to see that the room included an iron and ironing board which aren’t always available in hotels we’ve stayed at. There was a hair dryer too as well as complimentary tea and coffee.

Downstairs is the bar/lounge area and the Great Room restaurant, which is where we had dinner that evening. We had a menu in our room so we were able to have a look at the options before heading down to eat. There wasn’t a kids menu available which at first was a little disappointing but actually there was plenty of things for the children such as fish and chips, lasagne, steak pie and pizza. The member of staff at reception also let us know that there is a family pub just across the road if we decided to eat somewhere else.

The bar and lounge area of the hotel is just as modern and welcoming as the rooms are. It’s a lovely place to relax with a drink. Or alternatively there is an outdoor seating area which would be a nice place to sit with a drink on a summers evening.

The Great Room restaurant was really nice and the staff were very helpful. We were told to order at the bar and our food would be brought out to us. The process was straight forward and our food was served quickly.

Our food was great, as was the service. I would highly recommend the loaded nachos, they were delicious! Dinner is not included in the price of your stay but it’s good to have the option available to you, should you need it. Price wise, the food was reasonable at around £10 for a main meal. The only negative is the lack of a children’s menu.

Breakfast is included in the price of your stay and you are able to help yourself to as much as you like. Bacon, sausages, baked beans, scrambled eggs, plus a choice of continental items. Alternatively, if you are in a rush you can make your own sausage or bacon butty, pop it in a paper bag and take it out with you! I though that this was a great idea for people who need to head out to work quickly.

I asked the children what they thought to Holiday Inn Express and they both agreed that it was a really good hotel and they enjoyed staying there. Evie said that the bed was nice and comfortable and she slept really well in it. Max liked the food, especially the choice available at breakfast. They both liked how close the hotel was to Yorkshire Wildlife Park which meant no long car journeys for us the next morning.

Overall we really enjoyed our stay at the Holiday Inn Express in Doncaster. It exceeded my expectations as I really wasn’t expecting the hotel to be quite so modern. The food was also great, we really couldn’t fault it. In terms of cost, an overnight stay for a family of four (which includes breakfast) will range from around £45 – £80 depending on the date. I think that this is very reasonable considering that this is a well presented,  contemporary hotel and of course the amazing breakfast that is included.

Holiday Inn Express Doncaster are currently running an offer which includes breakfast and tickets to Yorkshire Wildlife Park for a family for just £90. To take advantage of this offer you can call 01302 314100 to book.
