WHITEKIRK HILL REVIEW

Whitekirk Hill review

Over October half term we headed up to Scotland for a few days break at Whitekirk Hill Resort. We had a lovely time there and were really impressed by the accommodation and facilities on site. I thought I would share a more detailed review for anyone who might be considering booking with them. Let’s get into it…

Whitekirk Hill

Whitekirk Hill is located on the stunning North Berwick coastline in Scotland. We drove up from South Yorkshire in around four hours. It’s around a 45 minute drive from Edinburgh but there’s also plenty to see and do in the local area if you didn’t want to go that far out.

The resort is very dog friendly and many of the accommodation options come with their own hot tub. Whitekirk Hill is operated by Landal, who have lots of other luxury lodge resorts across the UK, 95 to be exact! This isn’t our first experience with Landal, and we’ve always been very impressed with their parks in the past.

Accommodation

There are six different lodge types available at Whitekirk Hill, sleeping from two to 10 people. We stayed in ‘The Townsend’ which is a six person lodge with hot tub. It had three generously sized double bedrooms, two with en suites. The main living and kitchen area was really spacious, perfect for our family of four. There was also a utility room, which included a washing machine and sink area. This is something that we’ve never seen in a lodge before and it was a really handy space for doing washing, as well as storing coats, shoes and suitcases etc.

Facilities

In the main building at Whitekirk Hill you will find reception, a cafe/restaurant, indoor play area, spa, swimming pool and gym. Although we didn’t use a lot of these facilities so I can’t give much of a review on these. But we did eat lunch in the cafe one day which was really nice. There was a good selection of cakes, sandwiches, drinks and hot food available.

Our thoughts

We loved our stay at Whitekirk Hill and would definitely recommend it to others. The accommodation was absolutely gorgeous and the facilities really couldn’t have been better. I would also add that the wifi did work really well. This is something we’re always a bit nervous about when we go away, with two teens and the fact that I am self employed so may need to work while we’re away, it’s super important that the wifi works.

The only negative I can think of is the hot tub. It was a wood fired hot tub which certainly looks nicer than the usual plastic ones, but in my opinion they just aren’t as good. This is the second wood fired hot tub that we have used and both times we’ve found that they take a really long time to heat up and even then they are not warm enough. I found it a bit frustrating when we had been out for dinner and wanted to jump straight in the hot tub when we got back but couldn’t for about two hours while it warmed up. Also, the wood for the hot tub was stored outside and one day we came back to find that someone had stolen ours while we had been out! I assume this is because if you run out of wood, you have to buy more from reception, and whoever this was didn’t want to do that. We did report this to reception and they did give us more wood for free, which is great and absolutely not their fault but it definitely put a bit of a downer on our evening.

I hope that this review has been helpful. If you have any more questions about Whitekirk Hill resort please leave me a comment below.
