We were recently sent over a copy of Captain Pug – The Dog Who Sailed the Seas by Bloomsbury Publishing. It’s a great story and is brilliantly illustrated.
The book arrived at the perfect time, just before we went on holiday so we were able to take it with us and read it each night before bed. The book has six chapters so we read a chapter each night, it was just the right length for our holiday.
Without giving too much away, the story follows Pug on his adventures with his owner Lady Miranda, with plenty of laughs along the way.
Here’s what the blurb on the back of the book says…
Pug is going on a seafaring adventure. He’s had jam tarts for breakfast. He’s wearing a smart sailor suit. There’s just one problem… PUG IS AFRAID OF THE WATER!
My favourite thing about this book is the amazing illustrations. I think a children’s book with lovely pictures really helps to bring the book to life and helps get children involved in the story. I’m also a bit of a sucker for Pugs and a nautical theme!
The book is aimed at 5 – 7 year olds, Max was able to have a go at reading some of the book to Evie by himself, so cute! The text was just the right size for him, and simple enough for him to follow, ideal for five year olds who are just learning to read.
Although Evie is only 3, she thoroughly enjoyed the book and couldn’t wait to find out what adventures Pug would get up to next each night.
Captain Pug is the first in a new illustrated series, we can’t wait to get our hands on the next one!
Thanks for reading.

My little boy will love this book! He’ll only let me read him chapter books if they’re about dogs!!
