FAMILY-FRIENDLY STAYCATION IDEAS

For families especially, holidaying in the UK can be a great way to get away. By taking flying out of the equation, it can make the travel process more hassle-free. Plus, it’s an excuse to get out and explore parts of country you wouldn’t normally visit. Even now, with minimal COVID-19 restrictions, it’s clear that staycations are here to stay. Here are five family-friendly ideas for your next staycation.

Take a trip over to the Isle of Wight

Accessible by ferry, the Isle of Wight is a fantastic spot for a family staycation. The natural beauty is spectacular, with Sandown Bay and Compton Bay showcasing some of the most impressive beaches you’ll visit – you might even spot some fossils at Compton Bay. If you have animal-lovers in tow, make sure you squeeze in a trip to Monkey Haven to spot rescued gibbons, reptiles and meerkats.

Get a campervan and hit the roads of Suffolk

Suffolk offers a combination of countryside and seaside spots to explore, making it the perfect location for a campervan holiday. Popular cities to visit include Ipswich and Bury St. Edmonds, or you can take a daytrip to the Africa Alive Zoological Reserve for something a little different. Over by the coast, seal-watching is a popular pastime – as well as the usual beach antics of course. Remember to take out campervan insurance prior to travelling and then get a cracking itinerary in place. Don’t forget to take your 12V camper lithium-ion battery with you.

Check out Finlake Holiday resort

The Finlake Holiday Resort is spread across 130-acres of South Devon countryside, giving you a countryside escape feel, but with useful amenities on your doorstep. You can swim, unwind in the spa or take on a wide range of activities – think laser combat and axe-throwing. It’s the perfect spot for you and the family to try new things in the safety and comfort of a resort, while unwinding between activities in your very own holiday home.

Get a cabin in the Lake District

For a truly rural escape, get yourself a cabin in the Lake District, where you’ll be greeted by sweeping hills, gigantic lakes and plenty of wildlife. Whether you base yourself in Keswick, Coniston or Windermere, you won’t be far from breath-taking scenery and it’s easy enough to hop between places in the car. Little ones will love visiting Beatrix Potter’s 17th-century farmhouse, the place where Peter Rabbit and his friends were created.

Check out the Christmas markets in York

The medieval city of York is a magical place all-year round, but it really comes to life around Christmastime. York’s Christmas Market runs from mid-November right through to the 23rd December, so you have plenty of opportunity to fuel up on bratwurst and sip hot chocolate. It’s a great opportunity to pick up Christmas presents from artisan stalls too. Nearby, you can also visit key landmarks, such as York Minster and the famous cobbled street The Shambles.
