Whilst we were staying at The Sherwood Hideaway we decided on the Saturday we would take a trip out somewhere. As we have a National Trust membership we decided to visit one of the nearest NT properties and decided on Belton House.
Belton House is in Grantham, Lincolnshire so about a 45 minute drive from where we were staying. The house was built for Sir John Brownlow in the 1680s and has all the design features of a classic English country home. Sitting in formal Italian and Dutch gardens and an historic 1300 acre deer park, Belton is often cited as the quintessential country house estate.
We knew it was due to rain that day but decided to go out regardless. When we arrived the rain wasn’t too bad so we decided to head to the adventure playground first before it got worse. The playground is huge, there is so much to do and we could have spend most of the day in there!

Next we had a bit of an explore around the grounds…

The rain started to get quite heavy at this point so we headed over to the Ride Play Cafe for lunch. The cafe is great as it has a kids adventure play area inside which the kids loved.

After lunch we headed over to have a look around the house. It’s a good job we went prepared with umbrellas!

Sadly all we got to see of the gardens was what we could see out of the windows of the house 🙁

Despite the rain we had a great time at Belton House. We’ll definitely be going back in Spring/Summer to explore the gardens.
Thanks for reading.

Hi Emma! Of course, I had to click on here to see what you thought of Belton House. It’s one of our absolute favourite National Trust Properties and the newly upgraded adventure playground is super…Shame it was raining when you arrived.
Fantastic review and pictures. The gardens, maze and walk by the lake are a delight too. Plus the restaurant, shops, secondhand book shop….He He! I feel like we should have our own personal Taylor Family bench there!
Thanks for sharing and letting folks know about this fabulous family day out.

Wow – looks amazing – fantastic pics. We have kept meaning to go for ages as it’s really near my parents house and we have NT membership too. You’ve definitely spurred me on to get there soon. #fortheloveofBLOG
This is a perfect day out! I lover going to National Trust properties we have membership too! It’s great that you explored the house, this is something we tend to avoid with the buggy. The cafe looks fab, and it’s lovely when they cater for children too. Looks like you all had a great day, backed up with gorgeous pictures. Thanks so much for linking up at #fortheloveofBLOG. Claire x
