We’ve all been at events or online webinars where the speakers are unenthusiastic and you lose interest only a few minutes in. So finding the right speakers for your own event is crucial to it’s success. Even with the best technology and professional presentation, if it isn’t delivered well you will quickly lose your audience. This happens all too often and really can ruin the whole event. So how can you avoid this?
Here are a few things to consider when searching for the right speaker for your event…
Budget
Of course budget is a big factor when it comes to hiring speakers. It is possible to pay tens of thousands of pounds, and depending on the event this might be right for you. But it doesn’t have to be that costly. Reach out to podcasters, local business owners and other experts in the field who may be willing to speak for a small fee or even for free in exchange for exposure.
Research speaker websites
There are many dedicated speaker websites out there. Each will list their motivational speakers and their credentials, making it easy for you to find someone who is suitable for your event. It’s a good idea to make a shortlist and then research each individual person. You’ll might be able to find YouTube videos of them speaking at past events. This will really help you to make the right choice.

Consider celebrity speakers
If you have a larger budget you could even consider hiring a celebrity speaker. A celebrity speaker will also help to promote your event which will hopefully equate to more ticket sales. Of course hiring a celebrity to speak at your event doesn’t come cheap, but the cost of hiring them should easily be offset by ticket sales.
Ask your audience
Why not ask your audience who they would like to hear from at the event? They are the ones who will be listening to the speaker after all, so their opinion really matters. Your audience is likely to come up with great suggestions that you hadn’t even considered. Depending on the event you could post on social media to ask for ideas, or if it’s a workplace event you could send out an email or ask colleagues to fill out a form.
Take to social media
Following on from my last point, asking your audience for speaker suggestions on social media is a brilliant idea. You could also do some research on social media to seek out possible candidates for your event. You could consider online content creators and podcasters, who often have expertise in certain areas. Hiring people like this will save you money too.
