I’m a little bit late with this post, but earlier this month we celebrated Evie’s 5th birthday. I wanted to put together a little blog post for us to look back on in the future, just as I did last year.
I honestly can’t believe she’s five already. In my head I think she’s still two or three, I guess she will always be my baby though. It’s definitely true what they say, they really do grow up so fast and these past couple of years have absolutely whizzed by.
I did panic that we wouldn’t be able to get out anywhere on her birthday or even get prepared for it, as that week we had had ‘The Beast from the East’! I was planning to head out on the Thursday or Friday to buy last minute bits – wrapping paper, card, balloons and maybe a couple more presents. But unfortunately the kids school was closed because of the snow so I couldn’t get out. We decided that once James had woken up (after his night shift) on the Friday afternoon we would drop the kids at my mums house and then go to the shops. But that plan went out of the window when we couldn’t even move the car off our street, it was well and truly stuck in the snow. So instead James headed off on foot to pick up the last minute bits that we needed. Disaster averted!
The day itself was perfect for Evie, we did exactly what she wanted to do. We started off opening presents and cards, she got a little bit of money in her cards which she was really happy about. When we were all ready for the day we headed to Meadowhall so she could spend her birthday money at The Entertainer. We had lunch at Pizza Express, she had originally requested a burger but Five Guys was full so she settled for pizza instead. Later on in the afternoon we went round to my mums house for more presents and we finished off the day with chinese food and birthday cake. Perfect.

Last year the kids had a joint birthday party as their birthdays are only three weeks apart and at that point Evie didn’t have many of her own friends, so it just made sense to have a joint party. Now that she’s started school and has a little group of friends we decided that this year we’d let them have their own parties. So she had a soft play party with her school friends this weekend just gone. She had a great time and it was lovely for her to be the centre of attention and to see how much her confidence has grown in recent months.
I wasn’t very good at remembering to pick up my camera on her birthday but I did take a few snaps, some of which I absolutely love…
Happy birthday Evie! We love you lots xxx
