Dining Room Makeover

Dining room

We have just finished redecorating our dining room/kitchen and we are so pleased with how it’s turned out. It’s much brighter and fresher than it was before and with the addition of a few new accessories, the space has been completely transformed.

I don’t have any before pictures unfortunately but the walls were a combination of cream and grey, and we also had black wallpaper with silver trees in the alcoves. The room was very much in need of brightening up as it felt quite dull, so we decided to go for all white walls. Not only do the white walls look bright and modern but it makes it easier for us to patch up any dirty finger marks etc that the kids leave behind!

Our dining table and chairs are not new, we’ve had them for a few years and love them. I was considering getting new chairs, maybe bright coloured ones like the ones I mentioned in this post. What do you think? Should we just keep what we have or add some colour?

I knew I wanted to add some greenery to the room because, well I’m a little bit addicted to cactuses, succulents and house plants at the moment, but then who isn’t?! And after a recent trip to IKEA I came home with far more than I should have. I really love how they look in the room…

I blame instagram for many of my purchases and this basket is certainly no exception. These belly baskets seem to be everywhere at the moment and can be used for pretty much anything, but I love how they look with plants in them. I got this one from eBay and it’s the perfect size for this plant.

Our mirror is from Littlewoods, I stumbled across it whilst browsing and knew it would look perfect in this room. It’s simple and modern and I love the geometric shape of it…

I knew I wanted a nice big print for the walls as they were very bare with them being all white, but I didn’t want to go crazy and make the space feel cluttered again like it did before. So we opted of this print from FY.co. It’s simple and quirky and it fits in perfectly with the rest of the room.

Our light is an old one from Next but I have seen lots of similar pendant lights around.

I had planned to get a copper framed clock but whilst in IKEA the other week I came across this one and really liked it. I quite like the white against the white wall…

This light was gifted to me a few months ago and is by a brand called Watt & Veke, sadly it had been sat on a shelf because I didn’t have anywhere to put it until now. We just bought a simple shelf bracket from B&Q to hang it from and the bulb is from Wilko and I am so pleased with how it looks!

And of course we couldn’t leave the pets out, could we?

There’s not a lot to say about the kitchen. Apart from a lick of paint and a tidy up, it’s pretty much as it was. It’s tiny and starting to fall apart but it’s fine for now.

Here’s a little room tour I filmed for my YouTube channel…

What do you think to our newly decorated kitchen/dining room?

Thanks for reading.

It looks lovely you’ve got a great eye for interior design.

Curious…as you rent can you do what you want? Is it not expensive doing up someone else’s house?! Do you want to come and rent mine lol

It’s literally just a coat of white paint and a few new bits and bobs. We’ve lived here for six years and couldn’t not redecorate it and make it our own in that time xx
