MASTER BEDROOM RENOVATION | BEFORE & AFTER

Today I want to share our bedroom makeover with you. This is definitely one of my favourite, if not the favourite room in the house. It’s probably been one of the cheapest to renovate but I think we’ve done a good job with the decor, if I do say say myself!

It’s finished for now, although I am considering adding panelling behind the bed in the future. Our goal at the moment is to have a finished house in time for Christmas. That includes all the niggly little jobs such as chaulking, painting skirting boards, putting shelves up etc. So panelling is something I think I will revisit next year, after we’ve had a decent break from renovating because we sure do need it!

Here’s a little reminder of what this room looked like before. These photos were taken last August during our second viewing of the house…

As you can see it’s not the biggest bedroom in the world, but still a decent double bedroom size. Would you believe this room didn’t have a single plug socket in it?! But it did have two pendant lights and a light pull, as well as a very old Bakerlite switch. So during the rewire we added much needed plug sockets, removed one of the lights, centralised the other and removed the light pull.

Next we decided to rip out the middle section of the fitted wardrobes because it was pretty useless and didn’t look great. We did decide to keep the wardrobes though and just paint them.

We had the whole room replastered and some damp on the chimney breast and underneath the window treated.

Then came the fun part, painting and NEW CARPET! I can’t tell you how desperate I was to see the back of the dirty floorboards. Six months of living with those was enough to send anyone mad.

Here’s a reminder of my moodboard for the room…

And here is the finished room!

It’s a small room, so we’ve maximised the storage space with an ottoman bed. I had been eyeing up one from made.com but it was around £1000 and I just couldn’t justify the price. So imagine my excitement when I saw this one pop up on the Aldi website of all places. I can’t remember the exact price but it was around £250. Unfortunately it’s now sold out so I can’t share the link. But I am over the moon with it and the quality is so much better than I had expected.

We painted the wardobes in Windmill Lane by Little Greene, but colour matched by Decorating Centre Online. It’s a gorgeous shade of green and I think it works perfectly in this room. The rest of the room is Wevet by Farrow & Ball, colour matched by Valspar at B&Q. It’s a very subtle off white with a hint of grey.

We then added a beautiful mirror on the chimney breast which is from William Wood Mirrors. They have some wonderful unique mirrors at reasonable prices, definitely worth a look if you’re in the market for a new mirror.

Bedside tables were a really tricky one as we had a tiny amount of space to work with. In the end we settled on these Jax side tables from John Lewis. They fit perfectly, I highly recommend them if you don’t have much space in a bedroom. They come in a few different colours and are a good price at just £79.

Our lamps and pendant light are from IKEA. These were a bargain at £15 for the table lamps and £22 for the pendant lamp. They look so much more expensive than that, don’t they?

The cushions are perfect as they tie in all of the colours in the room so well. These were from H&M, which is one of my favourite places for homeware at the moment.

One thing we did splurge on was this beautiful chest of drawers from made.com. I don’t usually like to pay their prices, I just like to get ideas and then shop around for something similar and cheaper elsewhere. But this I just had to have. It looks amazing and fits under the bay window so well, it’s like it was always supposed to be there. Again, because the room is so small we knew we needed to be clever with storage and this has been great for that.

I think that’s everything that there is to share on our bedroom renovation, but do leave a comment if there’s anything I’ve forgotten or you would like to ask me.

Max’s bedroom makeover is coming next, so keep your eyes peeled!
