Through a Breakup
Seeing your BFF go through a breakup can be tough, but this is the time that you need to step up to the plate and be there for your friend. It is not always easy to know what to say or do at this time, so keep reading for a few tips that will help you to support your friend through a breakup.
Just Be There
The single most important thing is simply to be there for your friend. This will always be an emotional time for them and they will no longer have a partner to be there for them, so you need to make extra effort to be there for them whether they want a shoulder to cry on, to go out or simply to not be alone.
Often, you will need to be the person that suggests plans. They may not feel like doing much at all, but suggesting fun activities that the two of you could do will help to distract them and get them out and about – this is hugely important for their mental health during a challenging time.
Plan a Trip Away
One of the best suggestions that you can make is for the two of you to go away for a few days. After a breakup, it is easy for this to be your sole focus and everything in your life can be a reminder. This is why it is a nice idea to get away for a few days so that they can escape and focus on something else. You could even buy women’s nightwear for your BFF so that you can enjoy a girl’s night in on your trip.
Be Prepared For Ups & Downs
You also need to be prepared for ups and downs because recovery is not linear. They may seem strong and ready to move on and then devastated the next, so make sure that you are prepared for this and do not worry if they seem to take a step backwards.
After a breakup, you often just need someone that you can vent to and advice is not always helpful. This is why you should try to just listen to your friend and avoid interrupting them with your own opinions or suggestions.
During an emotional time, your BFF could be prone to bad decisions like getting in touch with their ex. This is why you need to be the voice of reason and discourage contact until they are in a strong and stable position.
Allow Them to Find Their Path
You also need to allow them to find their own path. Every person, relationship and breakup is different, so what worked for you may not work for them. Allow them to find their own path and make sure that you are always there to support them.
Hopefully, these tips will help your BFF to come out the other side and could even strengthen your relationship.
Thank you for reading.
