How Well Do You Know Your Dashboard Warning Lights?

I have been driving for about 10 years so you’d think that I would know quite a bit about cars by now, wouldn’t you? Well you would think wrong. I’m quite embarrassed to admit that I still don’t know what some of the warning lights on my car’s dashboard actually mean and I’m guilty of relying on my husband to deal with that sort of stuff. As much as we might not like to admit it, I bet I’m not alone.

Even after an unfortunate incident with my first ever car, I still don’t seem to have learnt my lesson. I was completely clueless when I got my first car so when the oil pressure warning light came up on my dashboard, I of course realised that there was a problem but I just didn’t understand what it was.

I figured I would get it sorted in a couple of days, and would keep running the car until then. A couple of days past and I kept putting it off because the car seemed to be running just fine, I didn’t think that the problem could be that serious if the car was still working. Until one day, my poor car completely gave up, it would have cost more than the car was worth to fix it so it had to be scrapped.

So in an attempted to finally figure out those warning lights, I’ve been checking out this handy guide from Go Girl insurance. I’ve found that it has really helped me to learn what the different symbols and lights mean.

You can check out the guide for yourself here. The guide also talks you through the different colours that your dashboard lights can be and what that means.

If I’d have seen this guide 10 years ago I would have known that my cars oil level urgently needed checking. If it was low, I could have simply topped it up or if it was correct I should have had it checked by a professional at a garage.

Go Girl offer car insurance to younger drivers at affordable prices, so if you are a new driver then they are definitely worth checking out, and don’t forget to learn those warning lights!

Come on, own up, do you actually know what those dashboard lights mean?

Thanks for reading.
