I think this was our fifth year of visiting The Sheffield Christmas Tree Company. Before that we’d never actually had a real Christmas tree before! It’s become a yearly tradition for us now. It’s definitely more than just picking a Christmas tree, it’s such a lovely festive outing for the kids and something that we all look forward to each year.
Sheffield Christmas Tree Company
The Sheffield Christmas Tree Company is located at Cow Gap Farm, on Cow Gap Lane in the village of Dungworth. It’s really close to Our Cow Molly if you know the area. It’s only about 10 minutes from us in Hillsborough so it’s a great location.
The farm is open every day up until Christmas Eve from 9am to 4pm. We went on their opening weekend to make sure we got a good tree but we’ve been much later on before and there’s still plenty of trees left.

Real Christmas Trees
The farm is huge, with over 20,000 trees to choose from. You can choose to take your tree away with you on the day or arrange to come back for it, or you can have it delivered. We always pay for delivery as I don’t fancy trying to squeeze an almost 7ft Christmas Tree into our Ford Focus!
There’s various tree varieties to pick from, including Nordman Fir, Norway Spruce, Blue Spruce, Fraser Fir, Noble Fir as well as potted trees so you can keep and reuse your tree.
Below is the tree that we chose this year, isn’t she a beauty? Not too big, not too small. We usually have a habit of picking a tree that’s way too big for our house so I was very conscious of not going too big this year.

Fun for all the family
As well as picking a tree there’s also a log cabin on the farm where you can buy Christmas decorations as well as treat yourself to a warm drink or snack.
Dogs are allowed at the farm on a lead. We took Poppy this year for the first time but honestly I probably won’t take her again because she literally wanted to sniff every single one of the 20,000 trees…

Prices
We paid £60 for a 6ft Christmas tree this year. I know that the 7ft trees are £70 so I assume the general rule is £10 per foot. As I mentioned earlier you can also choose to have your tree delivered to you for £10. Delivery is Monday to Friday, they do not deliver on weekends. Payment can be made by cash out on the field, or card payment down in the log cabin.
Recycling
The team also offer recycling when you’re finished with your Christmas tree. You can leave it in their car park from 30th December or alternatively pay £10 for it to be collected from your home address. All trees are chipped and used on the farm as paths for the following season. Very clever!
