WINTER MORNING ROUTINE WITH VERY.CO.UK

Winter mornings can be a challenge for many of us, I know they certainly have been for me in the past. It’s dark, it’s cold and all you want to do is roll over and go back to sleep, but you have to get up. It feels like such a chore. So I’ve been working on making my winter morning routine work better for me, and help me to have a positive start to my day.

Here are some small changes that I have made…

Waking up

One of the best changes I have made to my my mornings is to start using a sunrise alarm clock. This works by mimicking sunlight to wake you up gradually. The light signals to your body to stop producing the sleep hormone melatonin and start producing cortisol which is what helps us to get up. The alarm sounds like bird song too which makes waking up so much more pleasant. It’s particularly good for those who suffer with seasonal affective disorder.

I have also been using an electric blanket, which is something I had never had before. Not only does it make getting in to bed at night super warm and cosy but it also helps me to get up in the morning. When it’s particularly cold in the morning and I don’t want to get up, I just pop the heated blanket on for a few minutes to warm me up and it’s such a lovely start to the day.

Slow starts

Once I feel awake enough to start moving I will put on my cosy dressing gown. It’s like a warm hug and is exactly what I need on a cold winter morning. This one is from the brand Chelsea Peers at Very.co.uk, it’s beautiful quality and I love the green stripe design; my favourite colour!

I have found that getting up earlier and having a slower morning is what works best for me. I used to set my alarm as late as possible and would end up rushing around and feeling stressed, so I now like to allow myself time to have a quiet cuppa before the kids wake up.

Self care

Self care is important all year round but especially so during winter when everything feels just that little bit more difficult. I like to allow myself time to practice mindfulness in the morning. This might be yoga, reading my book or journalling. I find that this just helps set me up for the day with a positive mind and I feel ready for whatever the day has in store for me.

I have started taking vitamins to help support my body too. I am currently taking the Bio Synergy skin & hair and the immune booster. I take these first thing  in the morning when I get my breakfast and they have slotted easily into my routine. The immune booster is ideal for this time of year when there are so many bugs and viruses going around. It contains zinc and vitamin c to help boost your immune system and it can also help you recover if you are already starting to feel run down.

I hope that you have found this post useful and will take away some tips to help make your winter mornings a little bit easier.

Thank you for reading.
