There’s so much to think about when you’re planning a wedding. Big decisions, and the smaller ones that all add up to make the day perfect. You want to make sure everything is done right, and this applies to choosing your wedding rings. Unlike the dress or the cake, your ring will be on your finger forever and not just for one day so it’s crucial that you make the right choice.
Below are five things to consider when shopping for wedding rings…
Start looking early
It’s a good idea to start shopping around as early as possible. You don’t have to commit to anything right away, just start getting some ideas about what you like and don’t like. If you struggle to find something you like, but you’ve allowed plenty of time then you don’t need to panic. But if you leave ring shopping until the last minute you will likely buy a ring that you don’t love, simply because you were running out of time.
Budget
Budget is of course a big consideration when shopping for a wedding ring. But remember, a small budget doesn’t have to mean that you can’t have what you want. You could consider shopping second hand. Or purchasing online from a retailer such as Shesaidyes can often be cheaper than going into a jewellery store.
Choosing a metal
This is a really important consideration as it’s easy to be swayed by current trends. I went with white gold for my wedding ring, because that was the fashion 10 years ago. Buy now, I only wear yellow gold and so I really wish I had gone with yellow gold for my wedding ring. It is possible to change your metal down the line, but of course this is costly, so it’s much better to get the decision right first time if you can.

Consider shapes and styles
When we think of wedding rings we tend to think of the traditional straight bands, but there are so many more options these days. You could even go with a custom wedding ring to really get something unique and true to your person style. You should also consider what cut you would like the stones in your ring to be, such as emerald, round, princess, baguette etc. Why not look at matching wedding bands which mean that your engagement ring and wedding ring sit perfectly together.
Choosing the correct size
This may seem obvious, but don’t just assume that you know your size because that’s the size you’ve always worn. Go into a jewellery store and let them measure your ring finger properly. Even if you’re going to purchase online instead, they won’t have a problem measuring for you. If anything, this will just give you piece of mind that you are ordering the correct size and it’s one less thing to worry about.
Worse case scenario, if the size is wrong you can still have your ring adjusted, but again it’s more stress and money that you don’t need and can very easily be avoided.

I hope that this post has been helpful and happy wedding ring shopping!
