A few weeks ago Simply Swim got in touch to see if we would like to review some items from their website, and funnily enough I had just rung up and booked Max in for swimming lessons that very same day! So of course we were in need of some swimming gear to get him started.
Max is five and a half so probably a little bit late with starting swimming lessons but given his ASD diagnosis I haven’t been confident that he would concentrate enough until now. He adores water, it’s definitely his happy place. It really calms him down and he’s very confident when we take him swimming, we just haven’t been very successful in trying to teach him how to swim ourselves!
Max starts his lessons in January and I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t a little bit nervous, just the thought of him being in the water without me is bringing me out in a cold sweat! But realistically, I know he will be fine and safe. I just hope that he will concentrate enough to get the most out of his lessons.
Simply Swim stock a huge range of swimwear and equipment so whether you swim for leisure, are a competitive swimmer or are just learning to swim, they will have something to meet your needs.
The first thing that we chose was shorts. I wasn’t sure whether to go for water shorts or aquashorts so picked one of each. Both are the brand Speedo and fit Max really well. I wasn’t sure on the sizing at first but found the size guide on the website really helpful.
The next thing we looked for was armbands. Simply Swim recommended that I check out the Beco SwimDisc which get really good reviews so we went for those. They come as a set of six and are a great alternative to traditional armbands as they unclip, allowing you to adjust the level of buoyancy.
Max also chose this awesome Speedo bag to carry all his swimming gear in, how cool?!
We picked out some goggles too which are the Zoggs Junior Sonic Air Goggle and Max tells me that they are really comfortable, so much so that he has even taken to wearing them in the bath!
Finally we needed a towel and this Simply Swim microfibre one is perfect. It comes in a handy little zip bag and the microfibre fabric means that it dries you quickly.

When he’s been swimming before he’s happy to take his glasses off. His lessons are only 30 minutes so shouldn’t be a problem…hopefully! x
