Our houses could always use a bit more cleaning. This is especially true if you have kids and pets and you know how messy things can get. Also, cleaning is often tedious for everyone in the house as it requires time and dedication. However, there are ways to clean your home in just 20 minutes and make that part of your daily routine. To help you out, here is how you can speed-clean your home in 20 minutes or less.
Open the Windows to Air the House
The first thing to do is to open all the windows wide. Do this in every room in your home and feel how the fresh air is replacing the stale one. This will also allow some sun to get inside and ‘sterilize’ your home. Also, your home will instantly smell fresher and cleaner, and leave those windows open until you’ve finished the rest of the chores.
A Quick Declutter
Now that the windows are open, it’s time to do a quick tidy. Get your laundry basket and go to each room to collect any dirty clothes. Make sure to check the kitchen and halls, too, for some pieces that need a wash. Now that the laundry is in the basket, you can leave it in the bathroom and start decluttering the entire house. Any clutter on the surfaces in the kitchen, bathroom, and other rooms should be put into its place or even thrown out. You can also use the laundry basket to collect all the clutter and go through it later to see what you can throw out.
Quick Clean Your Bathroom
Since the laundry is already in the bathroom, you can load it into the washer and run a cycle. You can also research some useful laundry tips to clean the clothes properly and use less water and energy for a wash. Now that the washer is running, you can grab an antibacterial spray and clean the toilet, shower, bath, and sink. Give everything a good scrub and rinse. Lastly, change all the towels and a bathmat for fresh clean ones and prepare the dirty ones for the next washing cycle.

Do a Quick Clean in the Living Room
Living rooms can get messy as the whole family spends a lot of time in there. So, you should do a quick clean of it every day. You can wipe the dust off of the TV and surrounding furniture, plump the cushions, and neaten the throws. Then, make sure to ditch any rubbish and clutter that you may have missed. If you have enough time, you can do a quick vacuum of the rug and floors.
Speed Clean Your Kitchen
Last but not least, it’s time to clean the kitchen quickly. Open up the fridge, and see what you need to throw out. Everyone forgets about some food in the fridge so, see what’s ready to be thrown out and what has expired. Then, you should soak all the dishes that need to be soaked and rinsed and simply load them into the dishwasher. While the dishwasher is running, you can scrub the sink with an antibacterial spray, give your stovetop a nice scrub, and clean the floors. Once all that is clean, take out the trash, and you are done!

Don’t Forget About Deep Cleans
Even though you can make a habit of speed cleaning the house every day, you still shouldn’t forget about deep cleaning it. You should make it a habit to deep clean your home once a week, but if that’s not possible, do it at least once a month. This schedule really depends on your habits and how big your family is. To make sure your home is always clean as a whistle, here is a short deep clean list:
- Clean the washing machine and dishwasher to get rid of musty smells
- Empty the entire fridge and freezer and clean thoroughly
- Move and clean under all large furniture
- Clean hot water kettles and coffee makers from any stains
- Degrease and clean the inside of the oven
- Wash all the bedding and deodorize the mattresses
- Wash all the windows
- Clean outdoor furniture
- Check and clean the house’s gutters.
House chores are always tedious and due to lack of time, we often end up not cleaning for days. To avoid too big of a mess, you can create a speed cleaning routine that you can do every day for around 20 minutes. This technique is great, and it works, but don’t forget about deep cleaning at least once a month.
