As a glasses wearer I know just how expensive buying a new pair of glasses can be. But if you purchase your glasses online there are big savings to be had. I myself have bought glasses online a few times and have always been very happy. But I know that it can be a little daunting if you’ve never ordered a pair online before. So I’ve put together a handy guide to help you select your next pair of spectacles online…
Choose your colour
First you should start by deciding what sort of colour you would like your glasses to be. This could be traditional black, brown or tortoiseshell. Or you could go for a gold or silver metal frame. You could even opt for an on trend clear frame, or how about something a little more colourful? Aoolia have a fantastic range of coloured frames to choose from, right from the comfort of your own home.
Choose your style
There’s so many styles of glasses to choose from, it could be square, round, rectangle, oval or even geometric glasses frames. It’s important to consider what you will be using your glasses for. Are they to wear at home and in social settings? Or for work? If they are for work you may need to consider a more traditional style that will fit with your professional style.
Take advantage of home trials
Many online glasses retailers offer home trials. This gives you the opportunity to try on different frames to see whether they suit your style and face shape. I find this really helpful as it can be difficult to make such a big decision based on an image on a website.

Lens options
When you’ve chosen your frames online, it’s time to select your lenses. Most online glasses retailers will have a few packages to choose from depending on how thin you would like your lenses to be. If you have a strong prescription with very thick lenses, it would be best to go for the best package on offer. You can also opt for different coatings on your lenses such as anti glare. This is particularly useful if you spend a lot of time working on a computer.
Entering your prescription
The final thing you will need to do is enter your prescription which may be a little confusing if you’ve never done it before. Usually your optician will give you a copy of your prescription to take home. If not, you can request a copy for free. Once you have this, you can enter the details for your order. This will usually be displayed as sphere, cylinder, axis, prism and base on your prescription. There are lots of handy guides online to help you understand you prescription if you are struggling. Sometimes the retailer will allow you to simply send them a photo of your prescription so you don’t have to worry about entering details.
Have you ever purchased glasses online? If not, is it something you would consider?
