School’s Out! Our Summer Plans

summer plans

I’m a little bit late with this post as we were on holiday for the first week of the summer holidays so I’m only just getting round to writing this, but better late than never I guess!¬†July was a bit of a disappointment weather wise so I’m just hoping that it improved for August as I am really not good at entertaining the kids indoors!

I wrote a summer bucket list last year which you can read here if you’d like. I’m going to keep this one fairly short as I’m not really one of those people that crams activities into every single day of the holidays, and besides after a weeks holiday we’ve already done an awful lot.

1. Visit some cities

If you haven’t already seen we set ourselves a challenge a couple of months ago – The UK cities checklist challenge – which basically means visiting all UK cities. We haven’t set ourselves a time limit on this, we are just making the effort to visit a new city whenever we get the chance. Hopefully we can tick off a couple more this summer.

2. A trip to the beach

We visited loads of beaches while we were on holiday last week and I feel so sad now that we don’t live closer to the sea. Our nearest beach is about an hour and a half away which sucks. Hopefully we can fit a day or two at the seaside in over the coming weeks.

3. A little holiday

We’re currently looking at booking a night away in Whitby later this month. And it’s also my 30th birthday at the end of the month so I’m hoping we will get away somewhere for that too, although we haven’t arranged anything just yet.

4. National Trust

We are National Trust members and do make the most of our membership, but definitely more so over summer. We want to branch out a little a visit a few new places that we’ve never been to before.

5. Cinema

I’ve only ever braved the cinema once with the kids and recently they’ve been asking to go again. I’m sure there will be a fair few rainy days this summer so a trip to the cinema will be perfect.

6. Visit the zoo

We went to Chester Zoo a couple of months ago and had a great time. Yorkshire Wildlife Park is local to us so I think a trip there is a must this summer.

7. Sundown Adventure Land

Sundown Adventure Land is an under 10’s theme park in Retford. I used to go when I was little so have some fond memories of it. It’s still quite ‘retro’ looking and hasn’t changed much since I was young, which is part of it’s charm for me. We haven’t been for a couple of years now so it’s definitely on our list of things to do over the next few weeks.

8. Camping

We’ve talked about going camping for a while and it’s something I’d love to do over summer. We have absolutely no camping equipment at the moment though so I will need to try and convince the husband!

9. Stay local

I said in last years post that I wanted to explore more of my home city and we did manage to do that a little, but there is still so much more to see and do. Staying local is a great way of finding cheap and free activities and keeping costs down.

10. Alton Towers

We’ve been to CBeebies Land at Alton Towers a few times and the kids have always loved it. It’s been two years since the last time we went and with the kids getting older I think it’s only a matter of time before they start moaning that CBeebies is for babies! So I’d like to take them one last time before that happens.

What are your plans for the summer?

Thanks for reading.
