Exploring the Sussex Coast | Bexhill, St Leonards and Hastings

sussex coast

A couple of weeks ago we headed down to the Sussex coast for a holiday. It may seem like a bit of a random destination, especially for a family from Sheffield! But we love exploring new areas and there were a few places that we wanted to visit in East Sussex and Kent, so we decided we would go down and stay somewhere that was central to the places that we wanted to visit.

We did a lot of driving during our holiday and saw so much in just one week. There is so much to cover (and a lot of photos!) that I am going split this post into two with the second part coming in a couple of days. I have already done a separate blog post on Dreamland in Margate and Bodiam Castle. I will also be writing separate blog posts for Brighton and Canterbury as part of our UK cities checklist.

We stayed in St Leonards on Sea in this house which we booked through Cottages.com. St Leonards is right next to Hastings, so we spent a lot of time in that area. Bexhill is also just a short 10 minute drive away so we spent one morning exploring there, it’s a lovely little seaside town with a beautiful pebble beach…

St Leonards on Sea is just a small area right next to Hastings, there’s not all that much going on around there but it’s still worth a look. We ate at Half Man Half Burger which I would highly recommend, the halloumi burger was amazing!

Hastings is great and so much better than I had expected it to be, we spent lots of time there as there is so much to see and do. We enjoyed having a mooch around the seafront, seeing the Old Town and visiting the pier. My favourite was the East Cliff Railway which takes you up to Hastings country Park where you’re greeted with stunning views of Hastings.

Have you ever spent any time on the Sussex coast?

Thanks for reading.
