Over the past few months me and my family have been making a conscious effort to live a healthier lifestyle. We’ve been exercising more, cutting out junk food and eating more of the good stuff. So when ZENB contacted us to see if we would like to give its Veggie Sticks a try, we jumped at the chance. ZENB Veggie Sticks have recently launched in the UK and are certified organic by the Soil Association. They are available in four different flavours – Beetroot, Carrot, Pumpkin and Red Pepper, we couldn’t wait to try them out!

About ZENB

ZENB Veggie Sticks are vegan, organic and gluten free. They are a source of fibre and contain no artificial flavours or preservatives. In addition to using vegetables, ZENB also use ingredients such as puffed brown rice, red quinoa and almonds to complement and enhance the flavour of the veggies.

The company wants to raise awareness of food waste, so it includes as much of the whole vegetables as possible, including the peel, core, stem and seeds. So not only are ZENB creating yummy on-the-go snacks but they are also raising awareness of food waste.

“We’re proud of what we do, because through the use of more of the whole vegetable — including the core, peel, seeds, and stem — our snacks are providing an easier way to eat delicious snacks while also taking a step in the right direction to simplify food waste”.

The #ZENBChallenge

ZENB challenged us as a family to incorporate its Veggie Sticks into our diet in fun ways for a whole week. I’m always looking for creative ways to enjoy veggie snacks so this was the perfect challenge for us to get stuck into.

ZENB kindly provided us with lots of its lovely Veggie Sticks to try out. We liked all of the flavours but I think my favourite has to be pumpkin as it has a lovely sweet kick to it thanks to cinnamon, nutmeg and almond. Yum! The kids were big fans of the Carrot Veggie Stick which also has a sweetness to it.

One of my personal favourite ways to eat the Veggie Sticks has been as a simple snack. I’ve really enjoyed sitting down with a cup of tea, a book and a ZENB Stick for an afternoon snack in peace. We’ve also been packing them in picnics or taking them with us on our walks.

As well as a quick and convenient snack, there are lots of other ways to enjoy ZENB Veggie Sticks. Here are some of the ways we have been including them in our diet over the past week…

  • Crumbled over porridge, along with some summer berries
  • As croutons with soup – for added crunch!
  • Crumbled over a salad
  • With yoghurt and berries

These are just a few ways we have been using ZENB Veggie Sticks, can you think of any others? I would love to hear your ideas.

Strawberry beetroot smoothie

Probably my favourite way to use ZENB Veggie Sticks is in a smoothie. We made a delicious strawberry beetroot smoothie the other day that we all really enjoyed. So much so that the children have been asking every day if we can make it again! Here’s the recipe…

  • 250g strawberries
  • 1 apple
  • 1 banana
  • A sprinkle of oats
  • 1 ZENB Beetroot Veggie Stick

  • Chop up the strawberries and apple and add to your blender.
  • Break up the banana and add to the other ingredients in the blender, whizz together until smooth.
  • Add in the crumbled up ZENB Beetroot Veggie Stick and the oats and whizz until completely smooth.
  • I like to add a little ice at the end just to make it nice and cold – perfect for hot summer days.
  • You can also add some milk, or a dairy free alternative at this point to make your smoothie a little more creamy.
  • Pour into glasses and enjoy!

Our thoughts on ZENB Veggie Sticks

We have thoroughly enjoyed trying out ZENB Veggie Sticks and taking part in this challenge. My first thoughts were that these were simply snack bars to eat straight from the pack, and while they can be enjoyed like that, there are so many other possibilities! As I mentioned earlier, my favourite way is to add them in to smoothies and I’m very much looking forward to experimenting with different flavours and ingredients.
